Geoff Atkins did a great study a while back. It is about coverplates, and whether or not they affect the sound of a harp. https://docs.google.com/fileview?id=0B4u1gsRu9WWJN2EzZGIyZDQtZmJhNC00NjAyLTgxNzktZWRhNzMzNzQxMTdh&hl=en Thanks, Geoff! A.

  1. There's another one coming on harp combs.
I used wood for many years, but tired of the too- soft quality of the sound. (My hearing response is declining at the higher frequencies), and I'd bought three harps with anodised aluminium combs.
I don't trust aluminium at my age, so I had 12 stainless steel 6mm thick combs made.
The laser cutting was the easy bit, drilling was tricky. Sound has changed a lot, clearer, louder crisper. All subjective stuff, time to check what's going on.
